What's a Show-n-Go?

A Show-n-Go is a practice trial.  There are (unofficial) judges, ring stewards, competitors and classes.  The judge scores your performance, but there are no ribbons or placements.  You can use treats, toys, praise and corrections (NOT abuse) in the ring.

The idea of a Show-n-Go is to create as much of a real trial atmosphere as possible so you and your dog can get used to being in a competition without the full stress (or entry fees) of an actual trial.  It's a great way to:

  • Rehearse the full set of exercises for a trial, especially if you or your dog are new to the ring or to the level at which you're trialing
  • Find out what the dog will and won't do when you can't carry a treat or reward her after every exercise
  • Cure the "ring-wise" dog who thinks he's supposed to lag in the ring because you've never corrected him during a real trial
  • Cure the "ring-wise" dog who hates being in the ring because you've never rewarded him with food or play or a toy during a real trial
  • Cure the "ring-wise" dog who knows he'll get a reward once you leave the ring and barks to tell you to please hurry it up
  • Cure the dog who thinks judges and stewards are Evil Dog-Eating Monsters

What are the Rules?

  • Entry is open to everyone, K-9 members as well as the public
  • The entry fee is $5 per dog per run-through (entry).   Cash only, please!
  • You may enter a dog up to 2 times in each class
  • All dogs in a class will run through once before any second run-throughs are allowed
  • Second run-throughs may not occur if time and/or volunteers are not available
  • If you do a run-through with your dog, you also help steward for at least one other dog & handler in that class
  • Club members act as judges and stewards.  Members who judge or steward all or almost all of a class get one free run-through for every class they work.
  • Judges will mark any errors on a scoresheet if you want, but do not assess or count up points. You can keep the scoresheet to help you in your training. The blank scoresheets are here.
