Family Pet Classes​

S.T.A.R. Puppy Advanced Puppy I Advanced Puppy II Family Dog CGC CGCA & CGCU Engagment Games
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
Requirements: 3-6 months with 2 sets of inoculations (8 & 10 weeks)
We use positive reinforcement methods and games to make training fun for both the owner and the puppy. Puppies will be taught basic obedience skills: Come, Lie Down, Sit, Stay, Walk on a Leash, Leave It, and Polite Greeting with Humans
        
Tips and guidance for impulse control, potty and crate training, plus discussions about many common behavioral issues such as biting, teething, chewing, jumping, barking, socialization, separation anxiety and more. The subject of safety issues for kids & dog interactions will include the various stress signals dogs use daily.

Early socialization (starting around 9 weeks of age) is critical for the development of all puppies, so get your puppy out to experience the wonders of the world!  Follow your vet’s recommendations as to places where the puppy will be safe.
Do not underestimate what your puppy can do and learn even at a very young age. ​

Advanced Puppy I
Prerequisite: Completion of S.T.A.R. PUPPY or equivalent puppy class elsewhere
Continues your puppy's education so that they can perform exercises without luring and with distractions. Exercises continued include: walking on a loose leash with distractions, including other people, meeting and greeting other people with appropriate manners. “Come" from greater distances with distractions. Both Sit and Down Stays from a distance with distractions.
Advanced Puppy II​
Prerequisite:
Advanced Puppy taught at K-9
Continues pup’s education so that he can perform exercises without luring and with distractions. Continues to prepare puppy for AKC Canine Good Citizen while focusing on improving handler skills.  Handlers are coached in clicker use, constructive play techniques, games and tricks to keep the training fun. Standard exercises are also included: walking on a loose leash with distractions including other people. Meeting and greeting other people with appropriate manners. “Come" from greater distances with distractions. Both sit and down stays from a distance with distractions.
Family Dog
Requirements:
Open to dogs over 6 months of age with little to no formal training or group class experience
Materials Needed: Buckle or martingale collar, 4 to 6 foot leash, and lots of small treats.
This class is suitable for dogs over the age of 6 months that have completed their immunization shots, including rabies   We use positive reinforcement methods and games to make training fun for both the owner and the dog. 
Dogs will be taught basic obedience skills: Come, Sit, Lie Down, Stay, Walk on a Leash, Leave It, Polite Greetings with Humans

CGC
Requirements: Dog is comfortable in a group class setting, walks on a loose leash, sits, downs, recalls, and stays on cue
Prerequisites: S.T.A.R. Puppy, Advanced Puppy & Advanced Puppy II classes, Family Dog, or equivalent classes elsewhere
​This course is for dogs 1 year or older that have had several hours of group training in good social and obedience manners, but need polishing of those skills prior to taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Owners learn to become responsible dog owners and take the AKC pledge.
​Obedience Skills:  Sit, Down, Loose Leash Walking, Come, Leave It and Distance Stay.
Greeting: No Jumping Up, Accepting Petting and being Groomed by an unfamiliar person.
Plus Reaction to Another Dog, Walking Through a Crowd and Supervised Separation
Working around distractions (people, objects, sounds)

CGCA & CGCU
​Requirements: CGC title on record
Sit & Down, Stay in small Group with other People and/or Dogs
Ignoring Dropped Food
Greetings from People Holding a Bag
Loose Leash Walking with Left & Right Turns plus Slow & Fast pace.
Passing other Dogs on a Walk
Working around City Distractions (people, objects, sounds)
Polite Manners Going Through Doors, Up Stairs, Steps, or Elevator
Transportation: Entering & Exiting a Vehicle under control
First 2 or 3 classes will be held at K9 Obedience Club and the other classes held at community places and/or stores. ​
The testing for the CGCA & CGCU would be performed in environments which meet AKC’s requirements. Click here to learn more.
Engagement Games
Requirements: 
Dog must be comfortable working in a group class environment
Prerequisites:  STAR Puppy or Family Dog (or higher)
Materials Needed: Buckle or martingale collar, 4 to 6 foot leash, and lots of small treats.
We have all been in situations where our dog is distracted by something and there is no way to get their attention back… Now we have a solution to this problem! Engagement Games is designed to teach you how to get and maintain your dog’s attention through a series of games. Throughout class, you will learn a variety of games for getting your dog to opt-in to paying attention to you in a variety of situations, even when they are distracted! We will turn distractions into a cue to pay attention to you
