Basic Sport Classes
Conformation - Drop Ins
Open to anyone on a walk-in basis, but you must confirm class is being held by commenting and following the weekly post on the K-9 Facebook page.
Requirements: Dogs must be at least 10 weeks old and have at least two rounds of puppy vaccines to attend class. Dogs over 6 months of age need to have a current rabies vaccine. Please bring updated vaccine records to class with you.
Materials Needed: Please bring lots of high value treats, show lead, and water for your dog. Handlers should wear comfortable running shoes.
Class offers training in the skills required to best showcase your particular dog's particular breed in the AKC conformation ring. Classes are appropriate for both new and experienced handlers and will give you the opportunity to practice in a show ring and have experienced handlers go over your dog. This is an excellent opportunity to work on any issues your dog may be experiencing.

Precision Heeling
Prerequisites: Advanced Puppy II or higher class
Requirements: The dog must be comfortable working in a group class environment
Materials Needed: buckle or martingale collar, 4 to 6 foot leash, lots of small treats. Recommended by not required – training tab/short leash and platform for correct positioning
This class teaches the foundational skills needed to be successful at heeling for competition. We will cover heel position in turns, footwork, stands, pivots, and other skills to prepare for the heel position in Rally and Obedience.
Prerequisites: Advanced Puppy II or higher class
Requirements: The dog must be comfortable working in a group class environment

Obedience and Rally Skills
Prerequisites: S.T.A.R. Puppy and Advanced Puppy classes or equivalent classes elsewhere
Requirements: Dog must walk on leash without excessive pulling, sit and down on verbal command, and come when called.
This course provides an introduction to the fundamental skills for all obedience and rally exercises. Some skills introduced are attentive heeling, fronts, recalls, and stays. If you wish to continue training your dog for further work or just want to keep having fun with your dog, THIS is the class for you. Lots of games included to make this a fun and instructive class.
Advanced Obedience and Rally Skills
Prerequisites: Obedience & Rally Skills or the handler has taken a prior class in basic obedience or competed in obedience or rally
Requirements: Dog must walk on lead on the handler's left side without excessive pulling, sit on a verbal command in front and at heel, down on command, stay when the handler is in front 6 ' away, and come when called from at least 6'.
This course advances the handler and dog in the fundamental skills for all Obedience and Rally exercises, including steps to attentive heeling, proper position for "fronts," proper position "at heel," increased distance for recalls and stays from heel position and increased distance. Dogs must be able to work in a group setting with other dogs present within close proximity as some work will be in groups inside one ring. This class provides the opportunity to train your dog in a show-like environment with other dogs present and environmental distractions necessary to instill desired attention. Advanced Obedience and Rally Skills is appropriate for trainers with plans to compete in obedience and/or rally trials or trainers looking for a structured weekly class to keep their dog developing as a desirable companion dog.

Trick Dog
Dogs want and crave mental workouts. What better way to satisfy this need than through fun tricks while earning titles! AKC Trick Dog titles are official AKC titles listed on the dog’s title record. All dogs are eligible to earn AKC Trick Dog titles as well as many other sports like Obedience, Rally, Agility, Field Events, Herding and many more. Click here to learn more.
Prerequisites: Advanced Puppy, Obedience & Rally Skills class, Family Dog or Canine Good Citizen at K9.
Requirements: Dog is comfortable in a group class environment and able to be crated quietly while waiting their turn
Materials Needed: buckle or martingale collar, 4 to 6 foot leash, lots of small treats and optionally a clicker
In Trick Dog classes we work towards the AKC Novice Trick Dog (TKN) title which requires the dog to preform 10 skills. If a dog has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at AKC, only 5 Novice tricks (CGC + 5) are needed to earn the Novice title. The Trick Dog class will concentrate on various tricks at your own level and pace, from beginner to advanced.
Dogs who have not taken classes at K9 will be considered based upon instructor approval.
