Agility

BEGINNER Agility



Requirements: Completion/concurrent enrollment in Puppy class or approval of instructor
Prerequisites for agility:
1. Dogs that are aggressive to other dogs and reactive dogs are not allowed due to the group setting. 
2. Dog needs to be able to wear a leash / harness no flexi leads allowed. 
3. No specific behaviors on cue as we will be starting from the beginning. 
4. Puppies are welcome if they have completed or are taking a puppy class, or by instructor approval
Session length: 7 weeks
Cost: $160 ($140 with early registration discount)
Content: Handler skills: (shaping luring, and molding techniques are explained). Overview of cues and importance of keeping criteria clear and consistent for the dogs. Handler mechanics (treat placement, type of treats to use, hierarchy of treat value what it means and why it matters). Body line and how to teach our dogs to move with us on the agility field. Introduces “It’s Your Choice” game to start building some impulse control for the dogs. Targeting (used to build forward drive). Hand touch targets. Foot targets. Contact safety. This class emphasizes developing a dog that is as eager to train as you are, constantly asking you "What's next?"
Materials needed: Lots of treats, a flat or martingale collar, 4-6' leash, crate or
mat for your dog to relax on between exercises
